P&H OMEGA 40

The P&H Omega 40 is a durable, rough terrain crane produced in the 1980s. The model was part of the same line of cranes made by P&H, such as the Omega 18, 20 and 25. The production of this crane model ran from 1980 to 1981, offering different boom configurations. You’ll find the most common replacement P&H Omega 40 parts listed in the specs below.

P&H Omega 40 Features Overview

CRANE BOOM

Like the other rough terrain cranes in the P&H Omega line, the Omega 40 offers excellent serviceability and performance. It features a four-section design with the rectangular boom welded inside and out.

The boom has an initial length of 32 feet when retracted and can extend to 106 feet. The jib arm length varies, with the 1980 models extending up to 34 feet. This secondary arm extends the overall length of the crane’s boom but reduces its weight capacity. In addition, a lattice design was incorporated to allow the crane to lift additional loads.

Some common replacement P&H Omega 40 crane parts are for the boom attachments. Several boom options are available, including an anti-two-block system (ATB), which helps prevent any contact between the ball block and the boom tip. In addition, a four-sheave nosepiece and a Johnson hook ball are included in the configurations, which provide the necessary weight to counter any bearing friction.

CAB OPTIONS

You may need replacement P&H Omega 40 parts for the operator’s cab. The Omega 40 features a closed cab for better operator protection and safety. The cab was designed to provide optimum comfort to the crane’s operator. The controls are intuitively placed to allow the smooth operation of the machinery. There’s plenty of space inside the cab, giving the operator plenty of room. The open design of the cab offers the driver a clear view of the crane’s front, left side and rear. However, the view to the right can be slightly restricted due to the boom’s placement.

CONTROLS

The controls within the cab are well-placed, making vehicle operation easier. Here are some of the replacement P&H Omega 40 crane parts for the operator controls.

The foot pedals on the front include the ones for the engine throttle, boom hoist, service brakes and swing brakes. You’ll find double-acting levers on the left side of the steering wheel, mounted on consoles. You’ll find the levers for the boom hoist and main winch on the right side of the steering wheel.

There are floor-mounted levers on the right side of the driver’s seat. These two levers are for the crane’s swing brake and house lock. Some models may have drum rotation indicators, but those are optional, and not all Omega 40 cranes will have them.

Console mounted switches can be found on the right side of the operator’s seat. These switches include the master ignition, starting aid, engine start, emergency brake, engine stop, parking brake, defroster, master lights and hi-low transmission range. The consoles in the Omega 40 feature prewired removable modules designed for ease of service.

TRANSPORT MECHANISM

You may also need replacement P&H Omega 40 parts for its transport mechanism. However, some engines for this crane model may have to be rebuilt. The P&H Omega 40 is outfitted with a Detroit Diesel 6-cylinder 6V53n engine. It provides superior torque yet features a low fuel consumption. In addition, the noise levels from this engine are much lower compared to its contemporary models.

POWER DELIVERY

The Omega 40 is outfitted with a pair of Volumatik hydraulic system winches. They provide higher pulls and better line speeds while supplying optimum oil flow.
